The Martin Custom Artist Series OMC-LJ Pro Acoustic Guitar was built to the specifications of the 5th Beatle. OK, so Laurence Juber was not the 5th Beatle. Wait for it, wait for it, he is the 6th Beatle. I’m not a rocket scientist but that is what I come up with. He played guitar in Paul’s post Beatle band Wings. Paul had found him in England. When Mr Juber performs there are usually a number of Beatles compostions on the list. One of his CD covers, (LJ Plays the Beatles) is copied from the Meet the Beatles cover. Which by the way was the first album I ever owned that was by a famous band. Laurence Juber is influencing the fingerstyle genre in the most Beatlesque manner.
The CF Martin company, maker of mighty fine guitars must have a similar opinion of Mr Juber. The Martin Company has crafted five different guitars with the Laurence Juber signature. The model numbers are as follows: The OMC-LJ, the OMC-18,the OMC-18VLJ, the LJ OMC-28B-OMC-28, and the LJ OMC. I perused the list of artist signature models in the Martin catalog and discovered that Eric Clapton was the only name listed more than Laurence Juber. Wow! based on this endorsement alone you could argue
that Laurence Juber might be at least the worlds second greatest acoustic guitarist.
The latest guitar engineered for Juber is the Martin Custom Artist Series OMC-LJ Pro Acoustic Guitar. The concept for this guitar came during a time when Laurence was orchestrating the music for a movie. He realized that most of the orchestra’s string section consisted of instruments made with maple. Maple causes the sound to be clearer and project more than in mahogany and rosewood bodied instruments. Laurence wondered why maple was not used more often in the
making of flat top guitars. He requested from the CF Martin company a guitar with a flame maple body, and maple neck which increases sustain. The vintage Martin tonal quality comes from the solid Adironback Spruce top. Laurence thought that the sound of the guitar would best be handled by a D-tar pickup.
