Starting On A Music Career
By reading this article, I can only assume that you are looking to determine how you can make a real go at a career playing music. So, if you are a musician that really wants to make some money playing the music that you love, it is going to take some dedication and some focus on a few different areas.
If you are still reading, than you should take note that everything that will be listed from this point on is a very important step in creating your career musically. If you aspire to bring your audience from your living room and local dives to a national stage, than you should take all of these points seriously.
I guess that the logical place to start with your quest for musical stardom is to determine exactly what style of music you intend to play. The common misconception is that you should play the music that you listen to all of the time, because some people just aren’t cut out to play certain music types. So figure it out, and then work to make your sound unique and appealing to the audience at large.
Your guitar is very important to your craft. You get what you pay for, so if you have a lousy low end guitar, than it is going to produce the same quality of sound when you play. If you play acoustics, you should go with something like an Alvarez or Takamine acoustic guitar. If you are amping it up, you should lean more towards an Ibanez or Fender for quality electric guitars.
Other than getting a good electric or dreadnought acoustic guitar, you need to be thinking about getting your name out there to the right people. You see, if you have a very refined sound that people are going to love, than you should have no trouble picking up a manager or management team. They will work to get your name over to labels, you should not attempt to contact labels on your own.
The best way to get some materials out to these management companies, and eventually to the labels you want, it all starts with a great looking press kit. This will include photos, videos, biographies of band members, and tracks that you or your group has recorded. You should send DVDs, if you are including video footage. You might also want to consider making it so that it can be viewed on a graphic LCD HD TV if you are really a go getter.
So now you might have a little better of an idea of the process involved in getting a music career started. If you heed to these steps, you might stand a much better chance of getting the exposure required to send your act to the national stage.
