For Fingerstyle Guitarists, The Martin OMC-28E Acoustic Electric
The Martin OMC-28E has an orchestra model body. This was developed in 1929 in response to the request for a 14 fret guitar. The flat top acoustics of today are pretty much the image of the first Orchestra Model gutiars. Of the dreadnought and the OM gutiars the latter is the smaller of the two. The smaller body size evens out the overall sound from the bass to the treble. The bottom, mids, and highs are more evenly pronounced.
Solo guitar styles will perform well on an OM guitar.
The superior tonewoods used on the Martin OMC-28E contribute to success of the instruments design. Solid woods are used as they allow the vibration of the strings to ring clean and unstifled as opposed to laminated woods. The sound board is solid Sitka Spruce. Spruce has historically be the top wood most used by luthiers for acoustic steel string guitars.
The size and availability of the timber makes Sitka Spruce the number one choice for sound boards.
The OMC-28E uses solid East Indian Rosewood for the back and sides. Tonewoods are chosen for use in the back and sides of an instrument according to how they resonate with the sound board. Rosewood does double duty by producing satisfying harmonics for the ear and exhibiting eye catching grain and color combinations.
The fingerboard of the Martin OMC-28E is made of solid Black Ebony. The nut at the top of the 25 4/10 inch finger board scale has a width of 1 3/4 inches. This is an attraction for the fingerstyle guitarist.
The wider nut width allows those wild flaying digits a little extra work space. The lower end of the fret board and therefore the upper scale register is made more accessible by the cut away on the upper bout, hence the C in OMC.
The Fishman Elipse Aura pickup system provides the OMC-28E with on board controls.
This is where historic design of the Martin instrument meets space age technology. The Elipse Aura is designed for reproduction of the sound of the guitar with uncolored sonic accuracy.
Software is included to allow acoustic images to be applied to the on board electronics via USB port. There are controls for pickup-image blend, phase switching, volume, and anti feedback.
The Martin OMC-28E is a limited production, stage ready, fingerstyle friendly guitar that will not disappoint.
