Ballet Positions – Ballet Tips

The most beautiful form of art man invented, ballet dancing is both exhilarating and intense, while combining the grace of dance with classical music. What is less known, is that all ballet dance moves require lots and lots of hard work – ballet steps and ballet positions require the dancer’s body and mind to work together in perfect harmony.

Also, there is not a single ballet position that doesn’t put strain on the dancer’s heels and muscles, and this is why each and every dancer must learn to keep away from injury, as even something basic as a jumping pirouette and land in arabesques can lead to severe injuries.

Another danger besides the imminent risk of injuries that needs to be remembered is that each and every young girl that wants to be a successful ballerina should start taking lessons at a very young age, as even during the early teens is impossible to achieve a perfect body line. Normally, ballerinas start taking ballet lessons at the age of 4 or 5. The young age helps the body to accommodate with the exercises and hardens the joints while the child is still very flexible. Starting at a very young age is recommended, because even the basic ballet positions (the first position, second position, third position, fourth position and fifth position) can take months or years to master.

While neoclassical and classical ballet relies on more traditional ballet techniques, today, contemporary ballet allows dancers a greater freedom of motion, and this includes a wider variety of free dance. Even if the greater freedom of dance and motion offered is by contemporary ballet, attaining the perfect moves seen in the world renowned American Ballet Theatre or Royal Ballet is hard. Even if the basic ballet positions don’t require you to use too much your arms, developing strength in your arms is important for balance and weight shifting. Hence, the need of rigorous physical training for a ballerina or a male ballet dancer can’t be underlined enough. It’s really easy to make mistakes even when performing the basic ballet positions – without proper supervision one can easily destroy one’s feet to such an extent that waking will forever be hard. This is why you should have a ballet instructor that knows how to inspire students and acts like a guide trough the hardship of ballet. Ballet moves mean hard work and dedication, besides fluidness and grace.

You should also remember that pointe shoes, a tutu and a pretty face are only half of what it takes to be a ballet dancer. Hard work, and lots of hours spent practicing are the other half, and this is why, having a guide and keeping informed reading ballet guides needs to be done frequently. Also, if one starts at a young age, has proper supervision and guidance, reaching unimaginable heights along with amazing ballet positions that will make even a king – like the great ballet lover King Louis XIV- jealous can be accomplished.
